Responsible storage prevents unauthorized access. Each gun owner defines who is unauthorized for their home. It can mean preventing access to young children, guests, and potential thieves. It can also mean preventing access from themselves in a crisis by asking a loved one to change the safe code or by other means.

Responsible storage is often carried out best by storing or staging your firearms in a safe or other locking device. Responsible storage is a big one because we know access matters. Storing firearms responsibly can prevent negative outcomes with firearms like suicide.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=MLuB8wZMcHs%3Ffeature%3Doembed

Walk the Talk America created this resource to draw attention to realistic firearm storage. Throughout our history working with healthcare organizations, we felt that some of these groups didn’t have realistic options for storing responsibly. For example, storing firearms and ammunition separately and using cable locks are not options for many gun owners.

We want gun owners to pick the responsible storage option that makes sense for them and their homes while also seeing the importance of storing responsibly. Most importantly, however you decide to store your firearm, practice accessing it as often as you train with it.

Ways To Store Responsibly

Lock Box

Lock boxes, a popular choice among gun owners, offer a reassuring balance between security and accessibility. They are designed to be smaller than larger safes, allowing you to stage your firearms in areas of your home, office, or vehicle for quick access. This means you can have peace of mind, knowing that your guns are secure yet readily available when needed. The convenience of lock boxes ensures that you are always prepared without compromising on safety.

Cable Lock

Cable locks come with the majority of handgun purchases since 2005. While they are an option for responsible storage, many gun owners prefer not to use them and opt for a safe or lock box. This is because it takes time to unlock the lock and have it ready for use. This often defeats the purpose when firearms are meant for defending one’s home, where quick access is vital.

Cable locks work by running a cable through the barrel or action of a firearm to prevent it from being accidentally fired. They require either a key or a combination to unlock. Some companies now include technology like motion detection and GPS tracking to cable locks.

Full-Sized Safe

Some firearms are larger and require a full-sized safe. They also protect firearms from dust and other elements. The downside to this option is the space needed in the home for this storage option and its associated costs. Gun owners do love them for their ability to store multiple firearms and ammunition securely.

Other Locking Devices

There are other secure storage locking devices out there, too! For example, there are options where you can lock the firearm using a key on a custom grip attachment, which prevents the gun from firing. Some devices look similar to holsters or racks and have biometric scanners that unlock them.

CINCINNATI — Two Queen City entrepreneurs developed a way to put gun safety in the palm of gun owners’ hands.

GunAlert hit the market this summer. It’s a GPS tracking system designed to detect unauthorized movement, alert the user within seconds and aid them in recovering the firearm swiftly.

“What we’re trying to do — we know that guns are out there, we’re trying to make it easy for people to secure their guns and get notified if they move,” said co-creator Tom Lehn.

Gun Alert is a GPS tracking system designed to help gun owners protect their firearms from loss, theft or unauthorized use.

Gun Alert

After the Cincinnati native retired from a wireless company in 2020, his former CEO asked him to join with a patent creator to create the project. It took the two around a year and a half to develop, he said.

It’s a passion project for Lehn, who said he’s always kept safe storage and handling top of mind.

“I’ve been a gun guy since I was in Boy Scouts as a teenager,” he said. “I was involved with Boy Scouts as a leader for over 35 years, taught kids gun safety and how to shoot guns. I believe that the more kids know about gun safety the better off we are.”

GunAlert uses cellular technology and an enhanced motion sensor meaning it’s always traceable and will detect motion at even the slightest movement.

The device syncs to a phone app and can be attached to the gun itself, a bag, case or safe.

“If any of those things are picked up and moved, it’ll send an alert to my phone,” Lehn said.

Once an alert is received through the app, users will get location updates every five minutes.

Gun owners can register as many GunAlert devices to the app and even include specific information including serial numbers. Lehn said that information can be helpful when communicating with police.

Location specifics of the firearms will only be stored on the user’s phone. Lehn’s Level 2 Security company does not keep that information in its servers, he said.

Lehn said the system also helps to reduce the risks of growing trends seen across the country and locally.

“It’s estimated between 70 and 90% of shootings by people under the age of 18 are either from a gun either in the home or from a gun from a relative or a friend,” he said. “Sometimes if you have a gun in your vehicle. You may not look at it every day. You may not look at it for a week. This product would enable you to be alerted immediately if somebody took it out of your car.”

Keeping an eye on the trigger is top of mind in Cincinnati too.

City leaders joined together last week to introduce new legislation aiming to hold gun owners accountable if they aren’t responsible.Cincinnati council member Liz Keating penned two new emergency ordinances.

They would make it a crime if gun owners don’t immediately report their missing or stolen firearms and would require those who misplaced or mishandled a gun to pay $200 to get them back from police, a fee that Keating said would cover the typical processing and storage cost of each firearm.

The two ordinances passed out of the Public Safety and Governance Committee on Tuesday and head to full council for a vote.

Tracking and monitoring technology can be a valuable tool in helping to locate missing individuals who have autism, dementia, or Alzheimer’s. These tools utilize different technologies such as GPS, cellular triangulation, Wi-Fi and RFID to provide real-time location information, which can be accessed by caregivers or authorities through a web-based interface or mobile app, providing peace of mind for caregivers and loved ones and helping to quickly locate individuals who may be in danger.

Many police departments in the country have already begun to take advantage of these technologies to locate and rescue missing citizens who have autism, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. Just a few days ago, the Chelmsford Police Department reported that they located a missing woman using a tracking system called the ‘SafetyNet® System’. The SafetyNet® is intended to assist in the faster identification of missing people with cognitive impairments that have a tendency to get lost or disoriented. Police departments provide qualified participants a SafetyNet bracelet to wear around their wrist or ankle at all times. The bracelet has a radio frequency transmitter that transmits a continuous signal that may be used to pinpoint the user’s specific position if they go missing. In some cases, SafetyNet’s radio frequency technology has been proven to be more successful than GPS or cellular, particularly in tough environments such as thickly forested regions, buildings, basements, and shallow water.

traktek safety net rescues a wanderer police recover

SafetyNet® is a service provided by TraKTec LLC. TrakTec develops and offers cost-effective, scalable location awareness technology for consumer, corporate, and government applications. The SafetyNet Bracelet is a radio-frequency identification (RFID) and Bluetooth-based tracking system backed by government subsidies and used by police departments around the country to enable police search and rescue for elderly people who have wandered off. Last week, MetAlert, Inc. (MLRT) a leading solution provider for consumers/patients afflicted with movement, cognitive and spatial awareness disorders, a market that represents approximately 2.9% of the world’s population, announced it had signed a Heads of Terms with TrakTec to acquire the company and the SafetyNet technology. MetAlert, is best known for its award-winning patented GPS SmartSole® – Think Dr. Scholl’s meets LoJack, the world’s first invisible GPS wearable tracking  device created for those at risk of wandering due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism and traumatic brain injury.

As the number of people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease continues to rise, the wearable monitoring and tracking technology business will continue to expand in the coming years. The example above shows that it can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by these conditions.

SmartSoles Featured on Gadget Guys Latest Tech for the Holiday Season

LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA, November, 02, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MetAlert, Inc. (OTC: MLRT), a pioneer in the field of wearable GPS human and asset tracking and remote patient monitoring, announced it has selected Pod Group’s ENO ONE IoT SIM cards and advanced connectivity solutions for enterprise IoT applications for its award-winning 2-way GPS SmartSole, a wearable medical monitoring device that is integrated into an orthotic insole allowing discreet and unobtrusive tracking and remote monitoring of Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Autism sufferers.

This week, the GPS SmartSoles were also featured on the Gadget Guys shares latest tech perfect for the holiday season which aired on the CW syndicate across the U.S. and reaches approximately 3.2 million households.

[ Video Segment: SmartSole featured at 02:15 ]

The GPS SmartSoleTM, the world’s first invisible tracking and monitoring device, now available in more than 35 countries, uses cellular networks to communicate with the cloud and send alerts to a mobile app or online portal, enabling the location of the wearer to be traced. Boundaries called “Geozones” can be set up to alert the caregiver via email or text if the wearer strays beyond a safe zone.

“Pod is proud to play a crucial role in contributing to improving the quality of life and safety of people around the world” says Pod Group’s Director for Strategic Partnership Development, Alessio Piussi. “This is a clear example of how ENO ONE can help reduce the complexity of rolling out global, mission-critical IoT applications, providing cost-effective, reliable, and future-proofed connectivity.”

Pod Group’s ENO ONE eSIM solution includes an embedded chip inserted into the device to grant maximum hardware robustness. It offers global coverage over different technologies, such as 4G/LTE, CAT-M, and LTE-M, allowing the SmartSole to tap into the low-power cellular options to increase the battery life of the SmartSole which can last up to 7 days.

“The POD Group partnership is a critical component for the launch of our SmartSole plus, a mobile hot spot connected to other wearable devices. This level of 4G and MB IoT connectivity technology will become very valuable to MetAlert due to the amount of biometric and location data, which will need to be transmitted quickly, securely, and inexpensively across the globe,” commented Patrick Bertagna, MetAlert CEO.

Simple global deployment is crucial to MetAlert, which ships its SmartSoles across the world. With the ENO ONE global network covering 185 countries, MetAlert no longer has to worry about dealing with different providers in different geographies; instead, connectivity is managed via one contract.

Every ENO eSIM comes pre-configured with a bootstrap profile, meaning MetAlert no longer has to manually configure each device for a different destination. The eSIM is also provided on a neutral Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) platform. MetAlert owns the eSIM and is not locked into one vendor. On-SIM applets like Zero-Touch Provisioning mean that upon booting up, the device automatically connects to the nearest network and downloads a dedicated local profile.

The innovative design of the SmartSole uses the floor as a reflector to strengthen GPS signals, circumventing the difficult conditions created by locating the device under the foot. This has led to it being used in nursing homes, by the British NIH, and other national care agencies across Europe, and it is supported by local Alzheimer Associations as well as multiple Police, Search & Rescue organizations.

METALERT IS A LITTLE-KNOWN COMPANY WITH A BIG POTENTIAL (OTC: MLRT)

PUBLISHED ON OCTOBER 31, 2022

One of the most debilitating things about neurological disorders like dementia is that there is no cure, no treatment, and no standard form of care. It takes an enormous amount of skill and effort from both family members and caretakers to provide proper medical service to patients. There are few resources in terms of medications or personal safety devices that can provide families with peace of mind.

An off-the-cuff solution has emerged as people begin to utilize technology to make life easier for both patients and caretakers. Last year, tech behemoth Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) released a new product called an Air Tag. Unlike other Apple products, the Air Tag isn’t for listening to music or FaceTiming with your friends. The Air Tag is a sort of tracking device that uses a network of nearby Apple iPhones to bounce signals off. This creates the ability to use the Find My app to locate the whereabouts of your Air Tag.

Not surprisingly, given Apple’s history, the Air Tag was a hit, especially amongst those traveling with an expensive MacBook laptop or other high-end goods. It was also embraced by parents who slipped an Air Tag into their children’s pockets or backpacks to keep tabs on their location.

Now, families of dementia patients are using Air Tags to help locate a loved one if they wander. Wandering is one of the biggest threats to patient safety and is exactly as it sounds: a dementia patient may head out for a walk and lose their bearings. The American Alzheimer’s Association reported that more than 60% of patients with the disease will wander at some point after their diagnosis. Wandering is a race against the clock as well. If the patient is not found in the first 24 hours, their chances of survival dramatically decrease due to exposure to the elements, dehydration, or vehicular fatalities.

Why This OTC Company Has a Better Solution Than Apple’s Air Tags

Air Tags might be a quick solution, but these products come with limitations. First, we’ll state the obvious: only users with an Apple iPhone can track them. While the market share of mobile operating systems is even in North America, on a global scale, more than 70% of the world are Android users.

Tracking wandering dementia patients is also not the original purpose for Air Tags. While they may work “OK” in a big city with a large network of iPhone users, patients in remote areas or that wander to remote areas will certainly find themselves out of range. Finally, Air Tags don’t come with any sort of specific notification system for moving outside of a certain area. They need to be tracked through the Find My app. One more thing to note is that unless properly secured, Air Tags also have a chance to be dropped or lost, which would render them useless for tracking loved ones.

It is certainly a patchwork solution that may work for some but likely not for others. One up-and-coming technology company already has a product made for this exact purpose.

Why MetAlert’s SmartSole Product Can Replace Air Tags

Why This OTC Company Has a Better Solution Than Apple’s Air Tags

MetAlert (OTC: MLRT) is a Los Angeles-based company that focuses on healthcare and medical technology products for consumers. Its flagship GPS SmartSole tracker is the perfect solution for the problem of wandering because it was made specifically for this purpose. The SmartSole is an insole for shoes that comes equipped with a GPS and cellular tracking device built into it. It is easy to conceal, and patients are less likely to forget their shoes at home before they head out the door.

Best of all, the mobile app works with both iPhone and Android operating systems. Every five minutes, the SmartSole will send their location to the cloud and send notifications and alerts directly to your phone. Set your own boundaries and if the patient wanders outside of them you’ll be alerted immediately. MetAlert also cites that the SmartSole works in all 50 states and uses the T-Mobile 4G wireless network rather than Bluetooth like Air Tags.

With an aging population facing longer life expectancies and a higher rate of dementia than ever before, there is an immediate need for products that can alleviate the burden on healthcare workers. It is estimated that over 7 million Americans live with some form of dementia and that number balloons to more than 55 million worldwide.

Apple is a company that makes high-quality products for consumers, and it is easy to see why families would use an Air Tag for this scenario. But this is not one of the purposes for Air Tags and it has some obvious shortcomings in terms of range, connection, and product exclusivity. MetAlert’s SmartSole GPS Tracker is made specifically to track dementia patients who wander and provide you with real-time location services directly to your phone. Air Tags are a great way to keep track of valuable goods, but when it comes to family members, their guaranteed safety is priceless.

“Could you tell us about your recent corporate actions, including your rebranding and strategy moving forward?”, asked Jolly. “We rebranded the company last month and did a lot of corporate action including a name change from GTX Corp. to MetAlert,” said Bertagna, adding that the Company also performed a reverse split and changed their ticker symbol. “All of these actions were taken because of our new positioning in the marketplace.”

“We have expanded the capabilities of our SmartSole® platform,” continued Bertagna. “We have added Bluetooth, WI-FI, and sensors inside of the hardware platform, which will allow us to monitor not just where someone is but also how they are doing.”

“Could you tell us about some of your products, customers, and revenue streams?”, asked Jolly. Bertagna elaborated on the Company’s wearable technology product line, which is designed to monitor an individual’s wellness through biometric readings. “We are also going to be adding products that monitor how people are doing at home,” said Bertagna, before discussing the Company’s infrared technology monitor, which can alert caregivers or loved ones if there has been any change in activity or patterns.

“In terms of our revenue streams, it is hardware sales, as well as a monthly subscription fee to collect and analyze the data, while providing alerts through the platform,” said Bertagna.

The conversation then turned to the Company’s upcoming quarters. “We are going to be highly focused on media,” said Bertagna, adding that the Company hopes to continue to build brand awareness within the investment and medical communities. “On the R&D side, we’re going to be implementing the new wearables and incorporating them into our hardware platform,” said Bertagna. “We have some strategic partnerships that we will be announcing in the coming weeks.”

“We are very focused on what we call the longevity revolution,” continued Bertagna. “We want to be a major player in providing solutions to enable people to live a higher quality life, while extending their lives,” he said, before elaborating on the Company’s strategic partnerships and upcoming products. “We’re going to be looking at potentially making some acquisitions by the second or third quarter of next year, as we gear up to ultimately do an up list to Nasdaq.”

HEALTH· SEPTEMBER 27, 2022 Read on Markets Herald here.

  • MetAlert, formerly GTX Corp, trades under the temporary ticker symbol: OTC: GTXOD.
  • A permanent new symbol will be issued and announced after 20 days of trading under GTXOD, expected to be around Oct 18th
  • Over the next few weeks, the Company will be announcing more information on new strategic partnerships and product launches; here is a closer look at what we can expect.
MetAlert Provides Corporate Update and a Look at What's Next

MetAlert (OTC: GTXOD), known throughout the industry as an innovative leader in the field of wearable technology, has a fresh new look. The Company is evolving and rebranding to reflect its broader vision of solutions that improve health, safety, wellness, longevity, and quality of life.

MetAlert is taking everything it was under the GTX Corp brand but now will be adding new partnerships and products, which will encompass a much more comprehensive look into the future of medical technology.

Metalert has always been a company to watch. They were one of the first to bring GPS wearable technology to the market and continue to be a leader in the field. Now, they are expanding their product offerings to include telemedicine services, other wearables that integrate with their GPS SmartSole platform, and new fall detection and remote patient monitoring (RPM) product called RoomMate.

According to the CDC:

  • Annual medical costs for falls total more than $50 billion and are expected to rise.
  • More than 800,000 patients are hospitalized yearly because of a fall injury.
  • A large percentage of falls often result in a broken hip or head injury.
  • The average hospital cost for a fall injury is more than $30,000 and is expected to grow.

Fall Detection and RPM- saves money and saves lives!

RoomMate is the latest and most advanced remote monitoring and fall detection system on the market today. It is a simple-to-use solution for remotely looking after patients without intruding on their personal space, allowing for a total ‘anonymized’ supervision and monitoring service using Infrared 3D technology. With these new products, Metalert is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for all your wearable technology needs.

The Need for Telemedicine Services.

As the population ages, there is an increasing need for telemedicine services. According to a report by Grand View Research, the global telemedicine market is expected to reach $176.8 billion by 2025. This growth is driven by several factors, including an aging population, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, and rising healthcare costs. MetAlert’s telemedicine services will allow patients to consult with doctors and other healthcare professionals from the comfort of their own homes. This will save them and their caregivers time and money and provide an early diagnosis that can lead to a higher quality or even longer life, ensuring peace of mind for all.

Medical Devices That Integrate with The GPS SmartSole Platform.

The GPS SmartSole platform is MetAlert’s flagship product. It is an orthotic insole embedded with a GPS, cellular, wi-fi, and Bluetooth module. It is designed to monitor people with dementia, Alzheimer’s, or autism who tend to get lost and disoriented. The platform allows caregivers to track the whereabouts of their loved ones in real time and receive alerts if they wander off. With the launch of new products that integrate with the GPS SmartSole platform, Metalert is expanding its offerings to include products that will monitor overall health, such as temperature, heart rate, oxygen intake, and more. The devices will connect via Bluetooth to the SmartSole, and the SmartSole via cellular will send the information to the cloud; hence the GPS SmartSole will act as an invisible mobile hot spot or a Hub. Connecting these devices that are constantly monitoring vitals will increase the safety of those who use them and give caregivers peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are being monitored around the clock.

Conclusion:

MetAlert is a company that is constantly innovating and expanding its product offerings. With the recent announcement of the rebranding and future launch of some of these products, they are positioning themselves as a one-stop shop for all your remote patient monitoring technology needs. Whether you are looking for a way to keep an eye on your elderly parent or need a device to help you manage your diabetes, MetAlert has or is working on a solution. So be sure to check out their website today www.metalert.com  and see how they can help you live your life more safely and securely!

While the new ticker symbol will not be formally announced until mid-October, investors who want to invest in MetAlert now can do so under the temporary ticker symbol of GTXOD. Current shares will automatically be transferred to the new ticker symbol when the new symbol becomes effective. In an aging world where dementia, autism, and other neurological disorders require patients to be monitored and kept safe, MetAlert is making a challenging situation a little bit easier for everyone involved!
